Since its inception in 2006, POPULAR’s BookFest@Singapore has grown from strength to strength by establishing itself as Singapore’s largest and most successful book and stationery festival. With an ever-expanding collection of books, stationery, gifts, gadgets and more, attending the BookFest@Singapore has, without a doubt, become a must-do on many families’ list of holiday activities.
While the BookFest@Singapore has much to offer to consumers, the heart and soul of the POPULAR spirit lies in its undying efforts to promote reading and to support the growth of the literary scene. Every year, droves of book lovers flood into the halls of BookFest@Singapore for an up-close encounter with their favourite authors. Whether it is to understand the inspiration behind the author’s written craft or snag a chance to have their books autographed, the book signing sessions have never failed to be the star of the show.
With a strong commitment and dedication towards meeting and exceeding the expectations of the public, the 9th BookFest@Singapore returned with more exciting and noteworthy activities in tow.

Trove of Treasures
Returning for its 9th edition, BookFest@ Singapore 2015 officially opened on 4 December at Suntec Singapore Convention Centre. Mr Vangat Ramayah, Chairman of POPULAR Holdings, Mr Chou Cheng Ngok, Group CEO of POPULAR Holdings, Ms Lim Lee Ngoh, CEO of POPULAR Singapore and Malaysia, and independent directors Mr Desmond Wee and Mrs Lim Soon Sze were among the board members who attended the opening ceremony. Other VIPs, esteemed partners from MediaCorp and the People’s Republic of China Embassy, guests and members of the media gathered to mark the joyous occasion.
Mr Vangat Ramayah kicked off the proceedings with a heartening speech that recognised and paid tribute to the dedication, hard work, and foresight of the many men and women who helped make POPULAR, and the BookFest@Singapore,
the success story it is today. Indeed, with 91 years of history, POPULAR’s success is no coincidence, but the result of the efforts of many.
The theme was “Treasures” , which paid tribute to the importance of lifelong learning, translated from the well-known Chinese proverb, “书中自有黄金屋” . It signifies how success comes from the knowledge we can attain through books. It is also symbolic of reading as a key to unlock the powerful treasures of knowledge and creativity, and the vital role it plays in empowering and inspiring individuals, and enriching communities.
In reflection of the theme, a key – symbolising reading – was presented to Mr Ramayah to unlock the treasure chest of knowledge, and with that unlocking, BookFest@Singapore 2015 was officially launched.
The theme not only embodied POPULAR’s conviction in promoting the reading and learning culture, it also captured its dedication to its members. The great line- up of offerings and activities at the annual BookFest@Singapore event was the best
